Product Overview How To Use What's Inside

Powered by the most comprehensive DNA sequencing technology, the Oral Microbiome Health Test can detect thousands of types of bacteria in your patient’s sample that are associated with canine oral microbiomes.

The test offers accurate and targeted species-level identification of the clinically relevant feline and canine oral health associates, periodontal disease associates, and potential pathobionts.

Your patient’s sample is cross-referenced against our proprietary reference database, including an analysis to determine microbiome imbalances and identify problematic groups of bacteria associated with oral microbiome-related health conditions.

The report provides recommendations customized to your patient’s oral microbiome health needs, including supplements, nutritional guidance, and other interventions to aid in your patient’s oral care plan.

Key Features of the Oral Microbiome Test:

  • Track oral pathogens and pathobionts in the context of the oral microbiome.
  • Identify bacterial imbalances and problematic groups of bacteria that may contribute to oral and dental disease states.
  • Report includes customized recommendations on how to modify your patient’s oral and dental care routines to best meet their oral health needs.
  • Monitor oral microbiome in response to interventions and measure effectiveness of supplement therapy or oral care routine modifications with routine testing.

Oral Microbiome Test Instructions

  1. Collect an oral sample. Use the swabs provided to collect an oral microbiome sample from the gingival line. Please swab both upper and lower gums.
  2. Register sample. Visit the Patient Portal to register the sample. You will need to create an account and complete the patient’s profile first if you do not already have an account and profile set up.
  3. Send the sample. Use the pre-addressed mailer (with prepaid postage in the US) to send the sample to AnimalBiome for analysis.
  4. We analyze the sample. Using DNA sequencing, we identify the types and proportions of all the bacteria found in the cat or dog’s oral sample and compare them to our healthy reference set
  5. Receive the report. You will receive an email notification when the test results are ready. Access the results via the Patient Portal.

The Oral Health Microbiome Test contains everything you need to collect an oral microbiome sample from the dog, including:

  • Gloves
  • Sample swab with tube
  • Return mailer
